1. Sign Up
Jane Smith, an English teacher at Taylor Middle School, goes to Chalksite.com, signs up for her free Chalksite account by clicking the Signup Free tab, and creates her unique username of jsmith. This also sets up her personal web address at http://jsmith.chalksite.com where she can login to her account and post her website.
The next day in her classes, Jane tells her students to subscribe to her class by going to http://jsmith.chalksite.com/subscribe (or http://yourusername.chalksite.com), complete the short form, and create their own free password-protected Chalksite account. In doing so, a request for subscription will automatically be sent to Jane Smith's account.
During the first couple of minutes of study hall, Nathan Lewis, a student in Jane Smith's English class, visits her website and creates a student Chalksite account that automatically requests subscription to Mrs. Smith's class.
2. Subscribe
The next time Mrs. Smith logs in to her account, she sees that several students have requested subscription to her account. She approves most subscriptions and those students' information is automatically added to Jane's Classes/Students page. One requested subscription is not one of her students — Jane declines that one and all of that student's information is dropped from her account.
Before logging out, Jane quickly reviews her students' information, relieved the info is in her system and that she did not have to spend her personal time putting it there.
3. Communicate
Jane Smith can now use Chalksite to post grades, assignments, discussions and messages to her subscribed students. Depending on her needs, she can upgrade or downgrade her account at any time to accommodate her number of subscribed students.
