Q: I am running Windows XP or Server 2003 and get the following error when starting Church Office Management™: "Problem initializing BDE, Error $251E". How do I correct this?

A: Please try the following steps. After each step, try starting the Church Office Management™ program.

  1. Make sure the PDS user has been granted full access privileges to the root drive of the program folder or better yet, setup the user as the XP Administrator.
  2. Check the compatibility mode for PDSChurch.exe. You can right click on the Church Office Management™ icon, choose properties and select the Compatibility tab. Under 'Compatibility mode', the check box should NOT be checked. We have seen a few cases where this setting was checked.
  3. Something is using the shared memory location used by the BDE. We have not seen this happen but to change the shared memory location use the BDE configuration program to set the location and size. Configure the BDE to use more memory on each computer
    1. Run the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland Shared\BDE\BDEAdmin.exe program.
    2. On the Configuration Tab go to System\Init.
    3. Enter the following settings:
      • SharedMemoryLocation is 0x5BDE
      • SHAREDMEMSIZE is 4096.
    4. Click on the Blue arrow on the toolbar to apply the changes. Close the BDE Administrator and restart your Church Office Management™ program.
